Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician

Sascha Paris

Sascha is the Sierra Club's Outdoor Activities Training Manager, designing and facilitating leadership and program manager trainings for the Club's volunteers around the country. He has been working for NOLS Wilderness Medicine since 2000. Between Club training events and NOLS Wilderness Medicine courses, Sascha estimates he works with over 500 students annually. In 1990, Sascha got his start leading and managing sea kayaking and backpacking trips in Baja and the Sierra through UC San Diego's Outback Adventures Program. He then spent the next five years living the dream: living out of his 1966 VW Bus (formerly the family van that he grew up camping in!); leading and managing sea kayaking and mountaineering expeditions in Baja and Alaska for Outward Bound; guiding kayaking trips in the San Francisco Bay Area and teaching NOLS Wilderness Medicine courses around the west. Now based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Sascha spends his free time playing outside with his family and scheming ways to train his daughter and nieces to be his eventual big wall climbing and sea kayaking partners.
