Originally from Portland, OR, Katie has worked in outdoor education since 1999. She is the associate director of operations, supporting teams at NOLS locations around the world. She is also a senior field instructor, with 140 weeks of experience in the backpacking, rock climbing, caving, and mountaineering programs. Before landing in her current role, she led NOLS Risk Services and chaired the Wilderness Risk Management Conference (WRMC), oversaw staffing for NOLS Custom Education, was the program manager at NOLS Alaska, taught environmental education in the Pacific Northwest, and worked at Princeton University's outdoor program. She lives in Lander, Wyoming with her partner and young son.
