Born and raised in Oakland, California, Doug began his guiding career whitewater rafting in Northern California while at UC Davis. After rafting and kayaking around the world he began instructing for NOLS in 2003. Now he instructs whitewater, sailing, sea kayaking, and hiking courses. When he is not working for NOLS he can be found working as an engineer on energy efficiency projects to address climate change.
