Challenge yourself in the realm of wilderness medicine! NOLS Wilderness Medicine's courses for medical professionals are designed specifically to help you adapt your urban medical knowledge in remote settings. In the wilderness, you may have minimal access to equipment, and your ability to improvise is crucial to your patient's wellbeing.

Wilderness Medicine for the Professional Practitioner

On our two-day Wilderness Medicine for the Professional Practitioner course, you'll learn to apply your existing medical knowledge in a new way to manage a patient in a wilderness, remote, or disaster setting.

Wilderness Upgrade for Medical Professionals

Learn to improvise equipment, deal with challenging environments, and make difficult decisions with confidence on your Wilderness Upgrade for Medical Professionals course.

You'll learn to apply your urban emergency care knowledge to the wilderness through case studies and practical scenarios with mock patients. Our seasoned instructors will guide you through five days of intense, hands-on learning to make sure you are prepared in the wilderness.

Wilderness Medicine Expedition

Apply your professional experience to wilderness medicine emergencies and experience the backcountry with our Wilderness Medicine Expedition!

Your course will begin at one of our NOLS locations with our signature Wilderness Medicine for the Professional Practitioner course, followed by a week of intensive wilderness travel. Upon your return you will celebrate the end of your expedition, confident in your ability to respond to an emergency and manage a team in a remote environment.

Medicine in the Wild

Medical students will learn and practice wilderness medicine on this expedition in the Gila Wilderness of New Mexico! Offered only once a year, this is a perfect opportunity to round out your medical school electives.

You'll learn from senior faculty, as well as a senior emergency medicine resident from the Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency (HAEMR). All instructors are chosen for their background in wilderness leadership, urban and wilderness pre-hospital care, and excellence as educators.
