Women's Wind River Wilderness - 18 to 22 only

Find new challenges on the original NOLS course

Head to the wilderness to grow as a leader. On this all-women’s course, you’ll spend a month in the Wind River Range finding new experiences and places to explore every day. Climb high ridges and summit peaks carved by glaciers. Go fly fishing and learn about local ecology on clear, blue lakes. Wake up in the morning to cook breakfast for your group on a camp stove, and fall asleep listening to marmots whistle and wind blowing through lodgepole pines. As you travel from camp to camp, you’ll do all these things and more while learning the skills to live comfortably in the wilderness.

On top of these outdoor skills, practicing leadership will be a focus of this course. You and your group will work on skills like communication, decision making, and risk management as you meet new challenges, like choosing a route or resolving an argument. These are the experiences that will help you find your leadership style, experiences you’ll draw on for the rest of your life. More than anything, choosing this expedition is choosing to build experiences that will prepare you to lead, no matter where you find yourself.

“On top of Wind River Peak; Well aware of where I stood, I realized I had the power to accomplish extraordinary things and affect the world around me, and this realization ignited a confidence that stands strong today. NOLS gave me so much confidence in who I am and what I can do. My limits have stretched a vast degree and I have realized I have greater potential than I may give myself credit for.”
