Dan Mahoney
Dan Mahoney is ICCF’s Deputy Director, US Program, where he helps manage their congressional program on Capitol Hill. In this capacity he hosts and organizes trips for members of Congress to protected areas around the world, demonstrating their need for congressional support. Dan previously served as the Government Affairs Manager for American Prairie, a Montana-based organization working to build a 3.2 million acre nature reserve on the Great Plains. While there he managed the organization’s relationships with Congress, other NGOs, and the Department of Interior, with a focus on the Bureau of Land Management and Fish and Wildlife Service.
Dan received his MSc in Environmental Policy and Regulation from the London School of Economics, where he wrote his Master’s thesis on the politics of grizzly bear conservation in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. During the course of his studies he hiked and camped across as much of Europe as he could, and spent a month in Italy doing fieldwork for Rewilding Apennines. Prior to his work in Montana, DC, and Europe, Dan worked on presidential, gubernatorial, and conservation campaigns. As an undergraduate he spent a semester with the School for Field Studies in Tanzania, studying human wildlife conflict around different kinds of protected areas. Dan is a graduate of the NOLS Semester in the Rockies program, which inspired his career in land and wildlife conservation.
