Sometimes trips come across our radar that we just have to make happen, this was one of them.

Join NOLS on this extraordinary trip in the Yasawa Islands of Fiji. The trip uses kayaks to travel among the islands, visit a local village, and truly live in the tropical environment that makes Fiji an incredible destination.

You will be camping on and near beaches  for the majority of this trip as you paddle between islands. While you will be responsible for doing the paddling between camps, often in a double kayak with another person, there is a support boat that will transport gear and serve as a safety net for the trip. This combination of muscle power but with local support is an outstanding way to explore a new place while leaving energy left for off the water activities.

We partner with an outstanding local expedition company to utilize their gear, local expertise, and community connections and the trip will be closely integrated with them as partners. Your NOLS Instructors will keep your experience in mind as they build a kayaking progression for each person depending on your goals and integrate paddling into the cultural and environmental exploration.

The trip begins in Nadi with an evening orientation before taking a ferry the next morning  to our starting location and base camp. We’ll paddle north from there to visit a small village and spend some time learning about life in a rural community in Fiji. From there, we’ll head  south and spend the subsequent several days island hopping our way south. During paddles and at some camps there will be plenty of opportunities to snorkel and see the ocean life even closer.

The kayaking section concludes with a paddle into a comfortable island resort that will be our home for two nights. Using the resort as our base, you will have the option of spending the last “field day” snorkeling with manta rays, exploring the beaches, or hiking in the jungle. Options are plentiful here, the hard part will be choosing.

While this trip will have many comforts that NOLS Expeditions do not commonly enjoy, make no  mistake, it is a kayak expedition where we will be sleeping in tents, paddling significant miles, and sharing meals together. This is a great active vacation for someone who is looking for an adventure!
