Dynamic Duo Dominating Delicious Delicacies

Change is in the air as the summer season heats up here at the RM. Brenda Hammerstrom took the reins from RM Rations Manager Claudia Pearson just a few days ago. Brenda, who has worked in the Gulch off and on since the summer of 2003, will now be in charge of all the organizational ins and outs that make those scrumptious WhisperLite meals in the field possible.

The transition should be smooth as a baby’s bottom since a returning staff of Gulch Girls and other hired hands will be helping
out. Plus, Brenda went through rigorous training under Claudia, our all-knowing rations guru. Claudia began working in the Gulch in 1978 and, needless to say, she really knows her stuff. Her confident leadership, cheery demeanor, and very buff arms keep the Gulch running in tip-top shape. Obviously, buff arms are her most important attribute.

Claudia is confident Brenda will do swimmingly in her new position. You could even say Claudia beamed as she talked about Brenda’s marvelous capabilities. Brenda came to NOLS in 2002 as a scholarship student and promptly applied (nine months in advance!) for a job in the Gulch following her course. It seems she just can’t get enough–on top of working in the summer, she would stop in to help out for free! Surely Brenda’s experience, enthusiasm and that giggly laugh will serve her well.

Claudia will still help with finances every once in a while but plans to use her time off well. She’ll be riding and training her horses on top of working on home-improvement projects. We wish this dynamic duo the best of luck this summer, both in and out of the Gulch!
