LGBTQ+ Southwest Climbing - Adult

Grow your climbing skills in a queer-positive community

Build your rock climbing and leadership skills in a LGBTQ2IA+ affinity space. Head to Arizona’s Cochise Stronghold for nine days of immersive, experiential learning at a world-class climbing destination. Explore the area’s granite domes, jagged spires, and winding desert canyons. With the support of a community that celebrates queer identities, challenge yourself to meet new goals at the crag.

This expedition starts with the basics of backcountry living and climbing. Learn to cook on a camp stove, get to know your equipment, and set up a base camp where you’ll stay for the duration of the course. Dive into the climbing curriculum and learn the fundamentals of moving on rock, from communication and rope handling to belaying and rappelling. Later in the course, move on to more advanced topics, like anchor building and mock lead climbing.

As you gain experience at the crag, expect to grow your leadership skills as well. Practice effective communication and risk management while belaying a climbing partner. Strengthen your problem-solving skills while working with your teammates to climb a new route. Identify and develop your personal leadership style. Return inspired and ready to lead in the outdoors and beyond.
