In 1990, in the small town of Pitkin, Colorado, two itinerant outdoor educators founded the Wilderness Medicine Institute, planting the seeds of what would become a global leader in wilderness medicine education. Wilderness medicine was a bold, emerging idea—and one that quickly proved essential to both outdoor professionals and recreationists. Now, 35 years later, NOLS Wilderness Medicine has trained over 365,000 students across all 50 states and 48 countries. It's a legacy of equipping outdoor travelers with the essential skills and confidence to step in and help when help is most needed.
Since 1965, NOLS has inspired leadership, resilience, and connection through wilderness education. As we mark 60 years, we look to the future—with your support. As a nonprofit, we rely on donor support to provide scholarships, protect wild places, and evolve our curriculum to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.
Join us in celebrating this milestone by making a gift to NOLS. Whether it’s $60 in honor of 60 years, a planned gift for the future, or a recurring monthly gift every contribution helps ensure the next generation of leaders is ready for what lies ahead.
"Supporting NOLS means investing in future leaders who understand the value of challenge, compassion, and the natural world. I give because NOLS changed my life—and I want others to have that same chance."
