Whitewater River Expedition - 18 to 22 only

Whitewater Rafting and Kayaking on the Green River

Embark on a journey through some of the most beautiful and remote wilderness in the American West. Experience a life-changing adventure that goes beyond whitewater skills — an opportunity to earn academic credit while exploring the rugged terrain of Colorado and Utah.

On this sixteen-day expedition, you’ll navigate over two hundred miles of the viridescent Green River, mastering its thrilling rapids while earning academic credit. This journey is about more than just whitewater skills — it’s a transformative experience in a hands-on outdoor classroom, led by expert instructors with deep wilderness knowledge. As you travel through Gray Canyon and Desolation Canyon, you’ll develop rafting skills while building resilience and teamwork. These abilities will benefit you in school, work, and life.

Mornings begin under Colorado’s wide, brilliant skies and eventually fade into the purple hush of pristine Utah evenings. You’ll hear the call of a summer tanager echoing off canyon walls and spot the flash of a kingfisher diving for its catch. You’ll build an inclusive, supportive community, facing challenges together and making thoughtful, real-time decisions in the backcountry. You’ll move through the wilderness with growing confidence and purpose — learning not just how to read a river, but how to lead.

Your group will visit Dinosaur National Monument, where the fossilized bones of primordial reptiles lie embedded in stone. You’ll witness these ancient remains, offering firsthand evidence of how these scaly giants once ruled the continent.

Conquer the Green River: Lead, Navigate & Thrive

The Green River experience focuses on mastering whitewater rafting techniques, leadership, navigation, and team-building skills. During moving water instruction, you’ll learn eddy turns, peel-outs, ferries, river reading, and other whitewater kayak and raft techniques. Leadership skills are built through real-time decision-making and overcoming the hazards of a dynamic river environment. Crashing waves, high-volume currents, and shallow channels challenge both focus and teamwork. As you navigate rapids and wind through eroded gullies, a deep appreciation emerges — for the strength, persistence, and unpredictability of natural water.

Skills for Life

The skills you develop will stay with you long after the expedition ends. You’ll gain more competence than you ever realized you had, along with the confidence that you’re capable of more than you imagined. This course offers a transformative experience designed to inspire and empower. You’ll emerge an experienced adventurer, smooth and polished like the stones of the Green River — ready for anything.
