Yellowstone Ski Traverse

Yellowstone Ski Traverse

Spend 14 days skiing across Yellowstone National Park — the “Land of Fire and Ice” and the world’s first national park. You’ll start at the iconic Old Faithful geyser and traverse south toward the Tetons, putting your backcountry skills to the test while learning about the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem from some of the most experienced instructors in the field.

You’ll spend two days at NOLS Teton Valley getting oriented on gear, refining touring skills, packing sleds, and working through introductory avalanche education. Then you’ll board a snowcoach into Yellowstone, passing geothermal features and wildlife before arriving at Old Faithful and setting out on your expedition.

In the backcountry, you’ll travel 3-7 miles daily, moving through the world of winter in one of the most spectacular places on earth. You’ll build snow shelters and practice camp craft. Your days will be spent deepening your avalanche knowledge, honing your ski touring and splitboarding skills, and developing as a leader alongside your group.

This course is designed for intermediate to advanced backcountry skiers and splitboarders with previous winter camping experience. You’ll leave with an Avalanche Awareness certification recognized by the American Avalanche Association and the skills to plan and execute your own backcountry trips in the future.
