Waddington Range Mountaineering
Waddington Range Mountaineering
Explore British Columbia’s mountains and glaciers
Find new challenges on an unforgettable adventure in Canada’s beautiful and remote Waddington Range. On this month-long expedition, build the technical mountaineering skills you need to travel on rock, snow, and ice. Traverse high-altitude glaciers and climb rugged mountains veiled in clouds. Wake up before dawn to complete a peak ascent, pausing to admire the sunrise as you near the summit.
Starting with the basics of outdoor living, you’ll move into more advanced mountaineering topics as your skills and the course progress. Learn to read maps, cook tasty meals on a campstove, and follow Leave No Trace principles. Then, dive into the climbing curriculum, starting with knots and rope handling and working up to rope team travel, self-arrest, and belaying. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, practice crevasse rescue and avalanche hazard assessment.
At the same time, build your leadership skills. Develop your communication and decision-making skills while leading a rope team. Put your problem-solving skills into practice while route finding on a glacier. Learn to effectively manage risk in a dynamic alpine environment. Return with the confidence to lead in the outdoors, in your community, and beyond.
