Relive your fondest memories of Wyoming’s Wind River Range with your family. This alumni trip travels into the Winds using llamas to transport the majority of your gear as you shoulder a light pack of necessities. Whether you’re returning to the Winds or discovering them for the first time, this expedition offers a meaningful and memorable experience.

The itinerary features moderate hiking with shorter travel days and the option for longer day hikes. You’ll cover manageable distances while having opportunities to join instructor-led excursions if you’re eager for an added challenge.

Most of our travel will take place on established trails, though signage may be minimal. Weather conditions can shift quickly this time of year, bringing everything from warm, sunny days to extended periods of cool, rainy, or overcast skies.

Along the way, enjoy fly fishing in glacial lakes, observing wildlife, capturing scenic photographs, and learning about local ecology. Instructors will review foundational wilderness skills such as navigation and Leave No Trace principles, and you’ll take part in backcountry cooking lessons as part of a collaborative group kitchen.

Traveling with llamas allows the group to distribute shared gear and food more comfortably. While participants still carry personal equipment, the llamas significantly lighten the load. Their sure-footed, low-impact travel style makes them ideal backcountry partners. Calm and easy to manage, the llamas often become beloved members of the team.

The Wind River Range features diverse landscapes, from forested paths and alpine lakes to wildflower-filled meadows and sweeping granite expanses. Wildlife is abundant. Moose, elk, bears, mule deer, and coyotes all inhabit the region and are most often spotted by patient observers in the early morning or at dusk.
