LANDER, WYO — The National Outdoor Leadership School (
NOLS) just released the second edition of its official guide to finding your way in the wilderness,
NOLS Wilderness Navigation. This is the third book NOLS has published this season.
This book is an easy-to-follow guide to everything from learning to use a map and compass to exploring the latest technology. The second edition of NOLS Wilderness Navigation expands its coverage of the latter with up-to-date information on equipment and software—including smartphones and tablets—for navigation, new emergency communication technology and solar power.
Author Darren Wells is a senior NOLS instructor and assistant professor of outdoor education and leadership at
Central Wyoming College. He is also an officer for Fremont County Search and Rescue in Wyoming and an avid mountain biker, climber and backcountry skier.
NOLS is the leader in wilderness education and is dedicated to producing and distributing valuable resources for outdoor recreationists. In addition to the second edition of
NOLS Wilderness Navigation, NOLS recently released a second edition of
Wilderness Wisdom and the fifth edition of
NOLS Wilderness Medicine. Find more of the NOLS library on the
NOLS online store.
[Editor’s Note, Feb 2020: NOLS Wilderness Navigation is now in its
3rd edition.]
