The Ultimate Outdoor Adventure in Your Own Backyard

Do something different and exciting this summer by exploring the mountains and valleys of Wyoming. The National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) Rocky Mountain Scholarship Program offers the opportunity to all Fremont County residents, ages 14 and older, to participate in a NOLS Rocky Mountain backpacking, fly fishing, rock climbing, river or horse packing expedition.

“I learned so many new skills, including navigation, risk management, leadership and Leave No Trace,” says Sarah Boutwell about her NOLS experience. “I also made new friends that will last forever.”

Applicants for scholarships are evaluated in several areas, including merit, leadership qualities, intended application of a NOLS education, unique qualities or special life experiences they would bring to a course, motivation, and financial need. NOLS Rocky Mountain has been awarding course scholarships to Fremont County residents for almost 35 years. In 2007, $21,375 in scholarship monies were awarded.

All Fremont County residents are encouraged to apply for a NOLS Rocky Mountain scholarship. Scholarship applications should be completed and mailed, or dropped off, to NOLS Rocky Mountain, Attention: Scholarship Committee, 502 Lincoln St., Lander, WY 82520, so they’re received by Monday, February 4, 2008, the application deadline.
