Sustainability Report Released

NOLS’ Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability Department is happy to announce the release of the first annual Sustainability Report. This report tells the story of NOLS’ path to formalize environmental sustainability at the school in the context of its educational mission.

Students always ask how can they can make a difference, and what is the school doing to reduce its impact. This report reveals how NOLS is true to the backcountry Leave No Trace ethic in its frontcountry setting. The report also describes sustainability efforts at the school, like how NOLS tracks and measures its carbon footprint, and what reduction projects have been completed or are on the horizon.

In this year’s report NOLS is happy to note the school exceeded its 2010 carbon reduction goal a year early! We encourage you to read the report to find out how NOLS plans on reaching its ultimate goal of an 80 percent reduction by 2050.
