Summer Rendezvous
Many of the NOLS Patagonia Semesters operate as pairs. One section of students will go to the mountains, another will go to the ocean; after one month, these two groups meet and switch disciplines. That’s a “rendezvous”, and it usually happens in the field. These two student groups will meet, swap stories, swap equipment, swap instructors, then continue on their semesters. This same process will repeat when student groups switch to their Independent Student Group Travel (ISGT) section near the end of their semester.
This weekend, the semesters 1 and 2 (start date 1/11/10) met for their rendezvous to switch into ISGT mode.
Rendezvous is a time to re-tool and gear up for the new section, as well as clean up and repair the equipment used on the previous section. Food is sorted, fuel and other supplies organized, and routes planned. This group of students is now out in the field, hiking through different parts of the Aysen Region of Chile. Most are near Cerro Castillo national reserve.
