Spring is on the Way (at least we hope)!
We interns were not the only ones enjoying the warmer temps (though we certainly are good at it: Intern Adventures Part 1) and getting a little bit of Spring Fever…
NOLS Rocky Mountain has been feeling it, too (though all of us did get reminded this morning-with seven inches of snow-that we’re not in the free and clear yet)! On Wednesday, the last winter section of our spring semester programs returned back to the base. We’ve been working with the outfitting department helping students de-issue their winter gear–skis, skins, boots, poles, extra warm layers and boot systems, giant winter sleeping bags, and more–and gear up for upcoming sections. Thank goodness students don’t have to haul winter stuff around for their entire semester!
It’s been great having students back in town–that’s definitely the best part of our job. It keeps us busy around NOLS RM and brings the Noble Hotel to life. While we’ve enjoyed shredding the gnar, making awesome tele turns, pulling around sleds, and skinning into sweet, new locations, it’s time to put away the winter gear for the year and get started rock climbing, canyoneering, river traveling, horse packing and backpacking!
It’s always bittersweet watching the buses full of students pull out of the NOLS RM parking heading off to cool places like Red Rocks, Dirty Devil Canyon, Three Peaks Ranch, or the river base in Vernal, Utah (mostly we’re just jealous!)–but we’re psyched for the adventures that these guys will get to have this spring!
