Party Patriotic

A big crowd waits anxiously for the annual Fourth of July Parade down Main Street to begin.
The Fourth of July came to Lander this year with a bang, quite literally. Fireworks started lighting up the sky the night of the 3rd and continued most of the day on Sunday. Even in the day time, cracks and booms reverberated throughout Lander and gave a hint of what the night would bring.

It’s always a thrill to experience the Fourth in Lander for those of us who haven’t been here for the summer season before. Everyone tried to tell us how many fireworks we would see, but there was just no explaining it. Night came and there were explosions in every direction!

Lander certainly displays a patriotic spirit and NOLS Rocky Mountain does a fabulous job of participating in the festivities. No students were here for the Fourth, but the in-town staff and visiting instructors made sure to represent a patriotic spirit Adrienne and I display our patriotic spirit while admiring the floats in the parade.throughout the day. NOLSies gathered in front of the Wildflower Bakery for the morning’s parade down Main Street and cheered on the floats. The biggest cheer by far came for Smoky the Bear, who tossed out plenty of candy in return.

In other news, now that the Fourth’s party atmosphere has passed, NOLS Rocky Mountain is back in full swing. Five courses will return this week and 14 more will be in the field by Monday. Check back in for more student interviews and news from incoming courses.
