NOLS – SW In-Town Staff Get Out!

It was a beautiful blue-sky day in Tucson on Wednesday when three of the NOLS Southwest in-town staff decided to get out and get high on Mt. Lemmon. Leaving the heat of the valley behind, Rations Manager,Lauren Blank, Intern, Andrew Megas-Russell and Asst. Director, Nick Cross headed for the cool temps. of the summit crags for some multi-pitch action.
Once on the mountain, the three climbers set their sights on the climb “Fort Stress”, 5.9 on a formation called The Fortress. Four excellent pitches of bolt clipping led to the summit, where the trio enjoyed a stunning sunset view that can only be found in the Southwest.
During the walk back to the car, Aspen trees, a chilly wind and crisp temps left the climbers with hints of the Fall season that most others are experiencing this time of year. After dropping the 6,000 vertical feet back to the branch, Saguaros replaced the Aspens and the chilly wind was transformed into a warm breeze and we each left with an overwhelming appreciation for the place we live, work and play.
