NOLS Rocky Mountain meets Men In Science
After six weeks at NOLS, I probably shouldn’t be surprised to meet NOLS alumni almost everywhere I go. However, I still was not expecting to meet one last Friday at an event called “Men In Science” in Riverton, WY. This event is put together on alternating years for middle and high school boys and girls to encourage them to consider future careers in science.
As we explained NOLS to these students, a tall blonde boy walked up with his friends. He looked like the perfect NOLS course candidate and we were excited to talk to him. Turns out he fit the image because he took a Wind River Wilderness Course last summer.
The best part about the surprise of meeting Ian was that he was also a Fremont County Scholarship recipient. This scholarship supports qualified locals who want to take a summer course. That day Ian helped us encourage his peers to apply for a scholarship as they consider a course. And he also helped remind me that NOLS alumni seem to be everywhere because NOLS does as much as possible to support students. What a great event!
