New Courses for 2006!
We have just completed the process to determine what new courses NOLS will be offering in the 2006 catalog. There were over 40 options considered and ulimately seven were chosen. Here they are:
23 and older Alaska Glacier Mountaineering– This expedition will be flown onto the glacier and then spend two weeks learning all the skills needed to live and travel on big Alaskan glaciers.
Australian Summer Semester– This semester program will include hiking, sailing, aboriginal culture and sea kayaking.
Patagonia Year– This 135 day course will include mountaineering, sea kayaking, cultural components, intensive Spanish language instruction and Wilderness First Responder certification. This will be NOLS longest course. Can the NOLS bachelor’s degree program be far behind?
Wrangler/Guide Horsepacking– This course is aimed at those who want to break into the outfitter/guide profession with instruction in veterinary care, shoeing and of course, riding and and packing.
Adventure Rock– 30 days of backcountry rockclimbing for 14 and 15 year olds.
Baffin Island Backpacking– You can’t get much more remote. Check your globe. This will be thirty days way up there.
Semester in the Amazon– River travel on the Amazon and it’s tributaries, backpacking and more. You’lll be an explorer as you check out a place most people only ever see in National Geographic.
More details will follow in a few weeks.
