Greenwich Teen Braves the Wyoming Wilderness

Daisy Carter recently completed a Wind River Wilderness course with NOLS this past summer. Carter was hesitant to enroll at first, but could not deny an experience which both her dad and sister raved about. Carter hasn’t looked back since.

Her father, John Carter, would not have given her an “out” for lots of
reasons. The National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) is a great
program, he believed. It protects the wilderness and educates young
people. When young people get to see the beauty of remote areas, he
knew, they never forget it. He wanted that for all his children.

She had learned more about herself in the one month doing NOLS than
she had throughout her entire life. This was by far her greatest
accomplishment. At the end of the course, looking back, she was amazed
at the physical and mental toughness she had summoned to complete the
trip. It had forced her to really learn about leadership and working
with people to get things done, not just talking about it.

“It made me grow in so many ways,” Daisy told the Post. “I can’t describe how fulfilled I felt.”

Another WRW student, Aurthur Cannon was cited in the Lowcountry Life
