Expedition Leads Saratoga Native to Possible New Career Path

Jerick Lee mountaineering Photo by Marcelo MascarenoFor Saratoga native Jerick Lee, a recent 38-day mountaineering and sailing expedition through the Pacific Northwest was more than just an adventure. It was an experience that taught him leadership skills, challenged him, helped him connect with people from all over the world and ultimately led him toward a possible career path.

The trip, a wilderness education course offered through the National Outdoor Leadership School, was the next step in a job interview. After participating in a skiing expedition with the school last January and applying for a position with the company, he was offered a scholarship for this most recent course.

“You get close to these people very quickly since you are keeping each other safe,” Lee said. “You are putting your life in other people’s hands, and that’s one of the biggest things that draws me. If you go out with a group of people you don’t know, you might meet someone and have a first impression, but you’re forced to get to know them.”
