Domenic Bravo is NOLS 2019 Stewardship Award Recipient, Professor of Practice at the University of Wyoming Outdoor Recreation and Tourism Management

Lander, WY — October 10, 2019 — On October 11, 2019, NOLS will present its annual Stewardship Award to Domenic Bravo, Professor of Practice for the University of Wyoming’s Haub School for Environment and Natural Resources Outdoor Recreation and Tourism Management program. The NOLS Stewardship Award, presented annually since 1990, recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional stewardship of public lands and the environment.

NOLS chose to honor Mr. Bravo for his consistent work, both as a Professor at the University of Wyoming and as the Former Administrator for Wyoming State Parks, Historic Sites and Trails. His efforts expanded outdoor recreation opportunities across the state, encouraged young people to get outside, and sought to work with partners like NOLS to create a shared vision for the outdoor recreation industry.

“I am honored and humbled to receive this prestigious award from NOLS, an extraordinary company I have worked with in countless facets throughout my career,” said Domenic Bravo, a Professor in the Haub School of ENR at the University of Wyoming. “When I was first appointed as the Administrator of Wyoming State Parks, NOLS was one of the first organizations ready to help me fulfill a noble purpose–getting youth outdoors and connecting them to nature. Flash forward a decade, and we have continued to work on that goal, as well as add others including kickstarting the America’s Great Outdoor listening session, working on the Outdoor Recreation Task Force/Office and spearheading work on commercial/special use permits on public lands. Without an organization like NOLS, outdoor recreation and conservation would be lightyears behind where it is today. Thank you to NOLS for your 57+ years of dedication to connecting people to public lands, and years of commitment to offering skills that last a lifetime. Thank you again for this award and for the incredible work that you do.”

Domenic has held consistent vision joined with complementary action since his first days with Wyoming State Parks, by incentivizing outdoor opportunities, empowering citizens, and implementing initiatives. At the University of Wyoming, Mr. Bravo is training a new generation of skilled professionals to enter the outdoor recreation industry with an in depth understanding of the issues facing Wyoming.
