Define “NOLS”…
Everyone defines their NOLS experience differently. For some folks, it’s the first time they’ve spent more time outdoors than a night in their backyard. For others, it’s the time they finally realized their leadership potential.
Lately, I’ve been exploring more and more of those definitions online. Take the group on Facebook: “Did you do NOLS? I didn’t think so.” There is an ongoing list of “You might be a NOLS alum if…” Some of my favorites include the following:
…if you can distinguish gingerbread mix from wheat flour, or know someone who can’t.
…if you use a headlamp around your dorm/apartment at night instead of turning on the lights.
…if your life existed in acronyms or if micro trash was a macro bummer.
…if you know what a twiggy fire is.
This week, I took the liberty of defining NOLS myself. I edited the definition of the school on Wikipedia, everyone’s favorite online encyclopedia. Check out the entry here.
