Black Diamond Founder, CEO to Speak in Lander

LANDER—Peter Metcalf, founder and CEO of Black Diamond, will give the keynote speech during the National Outdoor Leadership School’s (NOLS) 50th anniversary celebration next month.

The presentation, which will take place at the Lander Community and Convention Center Oct. 8, will be preceded by a social hour at 6:30 p.m. NOLS Executive Director John Gans and Lander Mayor Del McOmie will also speak. NOLS invites the public to attend the free event, participate in the silent auction benefiting NOLS scholarships and join in celebrating 50 years.

Metcalf took a NOLS Mountain Guide course in 1971, which he says was one of the most profound and formative experiences in his life. In the backcountry of the Wind River Mountains, 15-year-old Metcalf found the adventure and growth he sought as an aspiring mountaineer and sparked the passion that eventually led him to found Black Diamond Equipment.

Since his time at NOLS, Peter has made a name for himself as a climber, a conservationist, and as a businessman. At 34, Peter created Black Diamond from the assets of Chouinard Equipment, which has grown to be a familiar name in our world. Peter continues to lead Black Diamond, to climb, to advocate for protecting land from development, and to fondly reminisce about his days at NOLS.

NOLS will provide appetizers and a cash bar. Seats in the Lander Community and Convention Center are limited, so register for free here.

The public is also invited to participate in the “Anniversary Amble,” a five-mile fun run/walk Saturday, Oct. 10. Learn more and register here.
