As a NOLS instructor turned PhD candidate in earth and climate sciences, I have spent the last few years skiing radars around hard-to-reach places to help answer questions about glaciers, ice flow, and climate change. My experiences with NOLS have been foundational in equipping me with a unique skill set: to live and work comfortably in cold and icy places, make tough decisions in remote environments, and plan expeditions and re-make plans when conditions inevitably change.
