Diego Figueroa, Ian Jones, and Sydney Kahl

Ian Jones

Ian is a NOLS instructor for mountaineering, backpacking, and winter courses. He lives in Palmer, Alaska, and serves as the Evacuation Coordinator for NOLS Alaska during the summer season, when not teaching mountaineering courses in the field. Outside of working for NOLS, Ian can be found exploring the mountains of Southcentral Alaska on his splitboard, taking snowpack and avalanche observations, and working as a professional ski patroller. 

Sydney Kahl

Sydney is a mountaineering, backpacking, and winter course instructor for NOLS. She lives in Seattle, where she is a mountain guide for Alpine Ascents International, teaches avalanche classes for the Northwest Avalanche Center, and works as a ski technician. When not in the field, Sydney can be found skiing in the Cascades, canoeing rivers, or finding a lake to swim in.
