Wilderness Medicine Training and More Gear!!

SSR3:4 WFA

Spring Semester in the Rockies sections 3 and 4 have been in town all week, learning about wilderness medicine and earning their WFA or Wliderness First Aid Certificate. The WFA course is a medical training course that is usually around 20 hours long and prepares outdoor enthusiasts, in this case NOLS students, in a wide range of wilderness medicine topics. The Students not only get plenty of classroom time learning wilderness medicine techniques, but also get to try out those skills in practical field exercises. In these pictures students practice splinting out in the cold in front of NOLS Headquarters here in Lander.

As soon as the medical training was wrapped up the Spring Semester students began the exciting process of organizing their gear in preparation for Friday’s departure into the snowy mountains. Anything that students didn’t already have, the staff over at NOLS Rocky Mountain were happy to supply. The anticipation of getting out into the woods had the students buzzing with excitement!
