NOLS Instructor to Head College Environmental Center

Becca
Becca Schild’s youthful looks belie her long resume of accomplishments.

Raised in Boulder, Colorado, Becca earned her bachelor’s degree in International Sustainable Development from Colorado College, designed a program that institutionalized
sustainability
at the college, worked with Bangladesh’s rural poor through the famous nonprofit micro-lender Grameen Bank, received a Masters degree in environmental management and a certificate in nonprofit management from Duke University, is a wicked climber, and has been instructing out of NOLS Southwest and NOLS Rocky Mountain since 2005.

And now, to top it all off, this lucky gal has been named coordinator of the Environmental Center at Fort Lewis College in Durango. First of all, we know she is going to have a blast in this mecca of outdoorsiness, skiing, climbing, and biking. But more importantly, Becca gets to coordinate this student-run center on campus, where she can teach adjunct classes and summer courses, and manage the various environmental projects that students are engaging in.

In Becca’s mind, her NOLS experience had everything to do with being selected for this position. She said that like NOLS, “the Environmental Center is focused on empowering students through interdisciplinary experiential learning.” She is psyched to work with undergrads. “Undergrad students are very idealistic and malleable, and want to change the world. To tap into that energy to enact environmental change is really exciting.”
