Wilderness Medicine Institute

WMI instructors are the best wilderness medicine educators in the world. They know what it feels like to make tough decisions in remote places because they've been there.

For almost two decades, WMI has been the most recognized and respected teacher of wilderness medicine, training over 75,000 students around the world. At WMI, students learn treatment principles and decision-making skills, not the memorization of long lists. Our courses are rigorous and intensive. They will challenge your decision-making skills. And they will get you ready.

Days are filled with dynamic lessons and exciting, realistic scenarios to best model the kind of medical situations you might face, whether you're an outdoor educator, guide, camp councelor or just someone who enjoys being outside with friends.

In the WMI classroom, you can expect lots of personal attention, lots of scenarios designed to enhance your ability to manage stressful situations, and plenty of fun.

You can also expect a curriculum that is evidence-based, not just copied out of a textbook. We teach wilderness medicine practices and protocols that are supported by a physician-based medical advisory panel and disseminated by our curriculum director. This means you're getting the latest findings and protocols in the industry.

WMI Courses:

Our students have one important thing in common: They are motivated because they know someday they might have to respond to a real emergency situation.
