Mike was born in Miami and learned to love the ocean from a very early age. Accompanied and supported by his big Cuban family, he gained an appreciation for the solitude of the world’s most vast wilderness, the ocean. Mike enjoys free-dive spearfishing, sea kayaking, scuba diving, and much more when visiting his home and family in Florida. Going to NC for his undergraduate degree at Elon University, Mike discovered the mountains and has been hooked ever since! He studied abroad in Australia, where he first learned to rock climb and had the opportunity to spend a full week diving on the great barrier reef. After graduating, Mike moved to the West Coast to work in outdoor education at an outdoor science school in Southern California and then as a GAP year instructor in nearby Dubois, WY. Mike now enjoys working with students from all over the world as an admissions officer and when he is not working, you’ll find him rock climbing, mountain biking, or trying to find some whitewater near Lander.
