About the expedition

Lace up your boots and step into the rugged Adirondack State Park, one of America's oldest wildernesses. This custom course for Camp Avoda's Counselors in Training (CITs) is a 6-day wilderness expedition that will start at the NOLS Northeast campus in Gabriels, NY, just a few miles from Paul Smith's College.

This course will be full of new challenges as you learn how to navigate stunning rocky peaks and camp in ancient hardwood forests of the Adirondack Mountains. Working with your fellow CITs you will develop leadership and teamwork skills through real situational leadership experiences while traveling through the backcountry with your peers and instructors.

Throughout your journey you'll grow closer to your fellow CITs as you live, learn, and laugh together in the wilderness. You will learn to cook delicious and gourmet meals, such as pizza and cinnamon rolls, on a single burner camp stove. Instructors will also guide your development with transferrable leadership tools, classes, reflective thinking and lots of fun.

When you emerge from the wilderness, you'll be emboldened, confident, and ready to take on larger roles back at camp as you apply your newfound skills to the Camp Avoda values of brotherhood, leadership, spirit, and tradition!

Four students look around at their surroundings and consult a map on an adventure course in the Adirondacks.
