Yukon Backpacking

Grow your leadership skills off trail

This summer, explore Canada’s vast wilderness on foot. Backpack through rugged mountains and sweeping tundra in the Land of the Midnight Sun. Hike almost entirely off trail in this beautiful and remote landscape, crossing free-flowing rivers and finding your way through tangled willow groves. Practice your fly fishing skills while camping beside clear alpine lakes. As you travel, keep your eye out for moose, wolves, and herds of caribou.

Whether you’re a seasoned backpacker or new to camping, expect to find new experiences and challenges each day. Start with the basics, like cooking on a campstove, using a map to navigate off trail, and following Leave No Trace principles. As the course and your skills progress, take on more responsibility for decision making and risk management.

Throughout the expedition, build your leadership skills in a dynamic wilderness environment. Practice effective communication as you work with your coursemates to cross a river. Develop your problem-solving and decision-making skills while planning the day’s hiking route. Along the way, make lasting memories and friendships as you navigate successes and failures with your team. Return from the Yukon with the outdoor experience and self-confidence you need to lead in the backcountry and beyond.
