Teton Valley Spring Break Backcountry Touring

Make your spring break an adventure

Feel cold air on your face as you slice through fresh snow. Spend your days far from city buildings. See the clear winter stars at night. On this course, you’ll get the basic skills to start exploring the backcountry in the winter. This course gets you ready with the skills you need to live outdoors in the winter.

During the day you’ll find fresh snow to go skiing or splitboarding. You’ll practice assessing avalanches and learn about snow science. Beyond the technical skills, you’ll also learn about leadership. You’ll practice risk management and decision making, learning to work as a team and manage your group. At night, you’ll sleep in yurts or snow shelters you build yourself.

For most people, winter means a pause on exploring the mountains. But when you have the right skills, you can open a whole new world of exploration. This course will prepare you with the skills, both in the outdoors and leadership and leadership, that will help get you started on exploring this world in the winter.
