Scandinavian Backpacking - Prime

Explore beyond the Arctic Circle

Find new challenges in the Scandes Mountains. On this course, join a group of motivated adults and head north of the Arctic Circle to backpack in some of the oldest landscapes in Europe. Climb high passes and walk along glacier-carved fjords in nearly 24-hour daylight. As you cross wide snow fields and alpine tundra, learn about the area’s ecology. Your course will start with the basics of living in a mountain range that has quick-changing weather and views that will constantly surprise you. As you travel, you’ll progress to the more challenging skills of navigating without trails and the art of cooking the perfect meal in the backcountry.

In addition to the focus on outdoor skills, leadership will be a key part of this course. You’ll learn about group dynamics as you live with a tight community in the mountains. You’ll practice communication and decision making as you work through finding a route to camp. Physical and mental challenges will teach you about tolerance for adversity. Each day you’ll be in a different leadership role, finding out what your unique style is and how your style supports the team. This course is your opportunity to gain self-awareness about your leadership style and exercise it with a group of your peers. In the end, you’ll bring home leadership skills and experience, memories of a unique place you’ll treasure, and the ability to continue exploring on your own backpacking trips.
