NOLS MBA Leadership Expedition

Improve your leadership skills and connect more deeply with your personal leadership style on this NOLS expedition designed specifically for MBA students and recent MBA graduates. On this 7-day backpacking expedition in the Galiuro Mountains, a designated “sky island” in the beautiful American Southwest, you will evolve in a dynamic wilderness setting as you enhance your leadership and outdoor skills, develop your network, and challenge yourself to grow as a trailblazer and problem solver.

Your instructors will play evolving roles as your knowledge, experience, and abilities increase throughout this self-contained expedition. You will take on increasing levels of personal and team responsibility, putting your knowledge into application as you lead your peers.

Instructors will provide structured briefing, debriefing, feedback, technical expertise, risk management, evaluation, classes, and participant leadership and followership opportunities.

You will learn from your instructors and peers, as well as from the environment you are immersed in. This area is famous for its incredible biodiversity and wealth of plants and animals.

On this expedition, you will explore vast wilderness areas, navigating the technical and environmental challenges of field-based learning to gain transferable skills that will serve you in your professional career. You’ll travel through this desert terrain, from one water source to another, and will develop a new appreciation for the creature comforts of home and a resiliency for situations where resources are limited. You’ll fall asleep under the stars to the sounds and smells of a rich high desert landscape.

Successful expeditions require the same essential skills found in the professional world—effective communication, problem-solving, positive influence, and strategically delivering results. Return to your MBA program or professional career holding practical and transferable strategies with greater leadership effectiveness.
