NOLS MBA Leadership Expedition

Your future team wants to work with someone who knows their own leadership abilities, inside and out. What are you planning to bring to the table?

A NOLS expedition is a hands-on experience where you will gain a deep understanding of your leadership strengths and areas for growth. The wilderness is your classroom as you work with your team to solve daily challenges, make decisions using incomplete information, and step into different leadership roles. Learning from success—and from failure—will be a transformational experience that will aid you in your professional journey.

Throughout this 7-day backpacking expedition in the high desert mountains of the American Southwest, you will take on increasing levels of personal and team responsibility, putting your knowledge into application as you lead your peers.

Successful expeditions require the same essential skills found in the professional world: effective communication, problem-solving, positive influence, and strategically delivering results. Return to your MBA program or professional career holding practical and transferable strategies with greater leadership effectiveness.

Who else does NOLS work with? We run courses for these top business schools:

  • The Wharton School of Business

  • Haas Business School

  • University of Texas McCombs School of Business

“I loved feeling self-sufficiency but also dependence upon my team at the same time… Having this kind of leadership experience—where you and your group can actually see and feel the consequences of your decisions—is invaluable.”

— Columbia Business School, MBA Candidate, Columbia Business School Leadership Expedition 2017

“This course pushed me really hard and led to great introspection. I loved the decision making frameworks and the feedback on my leadership.”

— Haas School of Business, MBA Candidate, Haas Extreme Leadership Expedition 2018
