JOB TITLE: Wilderness Risk Management Conference (WRMC) Coordinator

REPORTS TO: WRMC Manager

JOB OBJECTIVE: Work closely with WRMC manager and WRMC Steering Committee to plan, market, and execute the WRMC.

QUALIFICATIONS: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential. Key elements for success in this position include excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and the ability to manage varied tasks, problem solve, and work effectively  under pressure. The WRMC coordinator must have great customer service skills, and be excited to build and maintain relationships with a diverse network of individuals and organizations. The ability to work independently and prioritize workload is crucial. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and web-based applications is required. Prior event planning experience is a plus.

LEADERSHIP OR SUPERVISORY DUTIES: Supervises a seasonal intern, as well as work-study candidates and volunteers on-site at the conference.

FUNDS AND/OR PROPERTY: Works closely with WRMC Manager to build and manage the conference budget (approximately $200,000 annually). Makes finance-sensitive logistical decisions for the WRMC. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage and coordinate the WRMC (including logistics, marketing, registration, customer service, and partnerships).

  • Participate in site selection, negotiations, and contracting.
  • Arrange meeting space, lodging, food and beverage, audio-visual support, etc.
  • Create marketing strategy and campaigns using brochures, social media, targeted outreach, publications, etc.
  • Oversee online registration and provide customer service and support to attendees.
  • Attend monthly meetings with WRMC Steering Committee and provide updates.
  • Create and/or maintain online tools: WRMC website, event mobile app, post-conference surveys, and other online tools.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with WRMC exhibitors and partners.
  • Supervise a seasonal intern, as well as work-study candidates and volunteers on-site.

MOTOR VEHICLE RECORD: Applicants must be at least 21 years of age by the position start date and possess a valid driver’s license. Must have a clean driving history and be able to meet the criteria for NOLS vehicle insurance coverage.

WORK HOURS AND LOCATION: This is a half-time office position, based at  NOLS Headquarters in Lander, WY. It can be combined with the NOLS Expedition Faculty Summit Coordinator position (currently posted with same application timeline) to create a full-time position.

FIELD WORK: For NOLS Faculty Only: This position is eligible to be expanded to a 75% salaried faculty position when paired with field work or other NOLS departments. Field work is primarily out of NOLS Rocky Mountain.
