JOB TITLE: NOLS Southwest Outfitting Manager
REPORTS TO: NOLS Southwest Operations Manager
JOB OBJECTIVE: Oversee all issue, de-issue, sales, rental, inventory and management of NOLS Southwest equipment and merchandise. Participate as a member of the NOLS Southwest team in problem solving, operations support, and facilities maintenance.
QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with outdoor equipment and outfitting procedures for backcountry field programs. Must also possess competency in maintenance and repair of outdoor gear. Must possess strong organizational skills and work ethic. This person must be able to work independently and be attentive to detail. Excellent oral communication skills are necessary. Ability to work flexible hours is required, including some weekends and holidays.
LEADERSHIP OR SUPERVISORY DUTIES: As a member of the NOLS Southwest team offer and receive timely feedback among team members regarding performance. Brief and oversee field staff in course gear preparation. Train and supervise fellows and operating assistants during their time in the outfitting department.
FUNDS AND/OR PROPERTY: Manage budget valued at approximately $120,000. Maintain accurate student equipment issue sheets and handle all student equipment billing responsibilities with impeccable care. With operations manager, plan long-term equipment purchases. Manage non-tuition revenue through merchandise sales. The outfitting manager will use local business accounts, petty cash and credit cards.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Course Support and Gear Issue: Supervise students in the preparation of gear on issue and de-issue days. Brief and advise field instructors on course gear. Be well versed on the type and fit of gear available in the issue room.
Maintenance & Cleaning: Maintain issue room and associated storage areas in a clean and orderly state. Stock all ordered rental and merchandise gear. Maintain equipment in functional condition that supports appropriate risk management in the field. Oversee gear cleaning and laundering after courses.
Administrative Management: Order and receive gear appropriate for NOLS Southwest courses. Manage inventory to ensure that sufficient equipment is on hand to meet course needs. Maintain equipment issue sheets and handle all aspects of student equipment charges. Perform associated bookkeeping duties. Track merchandise and outfitting sales. Organize a "yard sale" open to the general public to turnover gear.
Operations Support: Drive courses to trail-heads. Assist in handling course evacuations. Perform vehicle re-rations as necessary. Perform maintenance duties on facilities as needed. Other duties as assigned by operations manager and/or program manager.

MOTOR VEHICLE RECORD: Applicants must be at least 21 years of age by the position start date and possess a valid driver’s license. Must have a clean driving history and be able to meet the criteria for NOLS vehicle insurance coverage.
WORK LOCATION: NOLS Southwest - Tucson, Arizona
WORK CONDITIONS: This is an approximately 7-month position running from mid October to mid-May. Rustic housing is available on site for a small fee. The kitchen and living areas are communal, shared with in-town staff. NOLS Southwest provides meals when students are in town.
