JOB TITLE: Financial Aid Counselor
REPORTS TO: University Relations Coordinator
JOB OBJECTIVE: The financial aid counselor is in charge of reviewing and awarding scholarship applications for NOLS Expedition courses, for managing the Expeditions Bridge Affiliates program, and for co-managing the NOLS Gateway Partner scholarship program.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to counsel students and work with outside organizations in a professional manner, whether in person, over the phone, or electronically. Ability to work in Word and Excel. Spanish language proficiency preferred. Budget management. Collaborative problem solving style.
LEADERSHIP OR SUPERVISORY DUTIES: This position works cooperatively with others at NOLS, as well as with a variety of external organizations.
FUNDS AND/OR PROPERTY: Works closely with the university relations coordinator to disburse approximately $1 million in scholarships.
45% - Coordinate, communicate, and organize all enrolled student procedures for Gateway Partner and Bridge Affiliate students. This person is the designated admission officer for these same students. Must be capable of explaining course information, travel logistics and equipment lists, and clearing student forms.
30% - Review scholarship applications for expedition courses and work collaboratively with students and families to eliminate financial barriers to enrollment. Work with the university relations coordinator to ensure scholarships are allocated within budget and according to specified guidelines.
25% - Collaborate with the diversity and inclusion manager and university relations coordinator to oversee and coordinate all Gateway Partner and Bridge Affiliate programs, including Summer Search, Morehead-Cain, Hesburgh-Yusko, SEALkids, Lincoln Scholars, and others.
Work collaboratively with the university relations coordinator, diversity and inclusion manager, and the admissions and marketing teams to interpret trends and further develop the scholarship program.
