JOB TITLE: NOLS Rocky Mountain River Base Rations/Operations Assistant

REPORTS TO: NOLS Rocky Mountain River Base Manager

JOB OBJECTIVE: Perform all rations department and retail store tasks. Provide general assistance in all areas as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a good team player, possess a zest for figuring things out, and demonstrate willingness/ability to work unsupervised. Responsibilities require basic computer skills including a working knowledge of Excel spreadsheets and Microsoft Word applications.  Competency driving with a trailer and a good driving record are strongly preferred.

LEADERSHIP OR SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
Take the lead providing innovative, cost effective food solutions. Provide vision for students and staff as they accomplish logistical tasks such as packing food, issuing course gear, and making gear purchases in the store. Set expectations and provide guidance to instructors regarding in-town tasks.

FUNDS AND/OR PROPERTY: Responsible for monitoring petty cash and receipts. Track store purchases and submit paperwork to ensure students are charged properly. Operate within a budget.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
55% - Plan menus, purchase food, pack field rations and prepare in-town meals in a timely fashion. Collaborate with instructors to support food needs. Maintain order and cleanliness of rations area. Complete all necessary paperwork to support rations operations.

20% - Operate retail store including ordering, stocking merchandise, and staffing it when student groups are in town. Complete all necessary paperwork to support retail operations.

20% - Assist with base operations:  Issue/de-issue process, driving river shuttles, equipment repair, keeping facility clean, and building community.

5% - Special projects, as delegated by the river base manager.

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK:
A criminal background check is required from all NOLS employees.

E-VERIFY: NOLS participates in E-verify.

WORK LOCATION: NOLS Rocky Mountain River Program in Vernal, UT

WORKING CONDITIONS: This is a three to six month position. Basic housing may be available.

MOTOR VEHICLE CHECK: Applicants must be at least 21 years of age by the position start date and possess a valid driver's license. Must have a clean driving history and be able to meet the criteria for NOLS vehicle insurance coverage.
