This presentation will explore some of the challenges of running high school outdoor education programs and will suggest strategies for dealing with these challenges so as to be able to provide age and population specific/appropriate programs. Challenges to be explored include staffing, school structure, training, risk management, professional development and issues dealing with school culture. The presenters, both experienced outdoor educators who have been working with high school populations for the last 20 years, will share their experiences and strategies through an interactive presentation & discussion format. Participants should expect to leave this presentation with tips and tricks for making high school outdoor education work.
