Call for Presentation Proposals

The Wilderness Risk Management Conference Steering Committee is now looking towards the 17th annual Wilderness Risk Management Conference. The 2010 Wilderness Risk Management Conference will be held in Colorado Springs, CO. Dates for the pre-conference sessions are October 12th and 14th, 2010, with the conference following on October 14th - 16th, 2010.

The call for proposals is open until March 31, 2010.

Held annually each autumn, the conference strives to:
  • Educate wilderness practitioners on risk management and practical safety skills.
  • Share field and administrative techniques in risk management.
  • Influence risk management’s best practices in the wilderness adventure and education industry.
  • Address existing and future issues influencing our industry.
  • Provide a networking and professional development forum with today’s leaders in the field.

We are very excited that many of our colleagues make such a valuable contribution to our profession by speaking at this conference. Speakers serve as volunteers and do not receive compensation, but are eligible for a registration discount. If you have a topic that is relevant to the wilderness risk management field and would like to share your knowledge, information, and skills with others, please submit a proposal for a pre-conference or conference presentation.

The format can be lecture, interactive workshop (panel or small group discussion, scenario or case study), skills training or demonstration.

Presentation proposals should match the theme of wilderness risk management. Conference participants come from the outdoor education, conservation, recreation and guiding industry including secondary schools, camps, therapeutic programs and college outdoor programs. Themes may include: health and wilderness medicine; legal and insurance issues; field practices; program administration; and crisis management; staff training; and emerging issues or trends.

The Wilderness Risk Management Conference Steering Committee will review proposals and make notifications by June 1, 2010. Proposals will be accepted between December 22, 2009 and March 31, 2010.

Please direct questions to Shana Tarter, Chair of the Wilderness Risk Management Conference Steering Committee, at 307-335-2353 or shana_tarter@nols.edu.

Presenting at the WRMC is a great way to share your knowledge and build long-lasting professional relationships.
