Leadership Expeditions




NOLS Leadership Expeditions for the U.S. Naval Academy are field-based, leadership practicums. These courses are designed to support and complement the classroom leadership curriculum offered through the Academy's Leadership Education and Development Division. These expeditions are also available to cadets at other service academics and ROTC midshipmen. Please contact Lindsay Priefert at NOLS with questions about participating if you are not a midshipmen at the U.S. Naval Academy.

  • Notify of program acceptance - February 6-17, 2017
    NOLS will notify applicants via email as they are placed on preliminary rosters for their first or second choice expeditions. Applicants whose first or second choices cannot be honored will be contacted and other options will be explored.
    There are four conditions under which the application fee would be refunded: 
    1. Financial constraints for scholarship applicants when NOLS is informed of withdrawal within 21 days of award determination
    2. Conflict with mandatory training
    3. Athletic excellence
    4. NOLS is unable to assign you to your first or second choice course type 


  • Submit student paperwork - Due April 3, 2017
    • Find required paperwork (health form, student agreement and insurance information) on your student dashboard.
  • Notify of course assignment - late March - early April, 2017: Character Development and Training will notify midshipmen of specific course assignment through summer training orders. Cadets at other academies or NROTC students will be notified by NOLS or through their chain of command.
  • USNA mandatory course briefing - Mid-April
  • Remit tuition balance and equipment deposit
    • April 15, 2017 for Block 0 & 1 expeditions
    • May 1, 2017 for Block 2 & 3 expeditions

  • Enrollment Fee Refund Policy: The $300 enrollment fee, due with your application, will be refunded under only the following conditions:


    1. Financial constraints for scholarship applicants when NOLS is informed of withdrawal within 21 days of award determination;
    2. Conflict with mandatory training, excluding optional summer school;
    3. Athletic excellence; or
    4. NOLS is unable to assign you to your first or second choice course type and you are not interested in other opportunities.
  • NOLS Cancellation Policies: If you cancel from or leave a course for any reason, your $300 enrollment fee with application is forfeited (unless you meet a condition above) and:
    1. Between 15 and 29 days prior to the course starting date, NOLS will retain 25% of course tuition.
    2. Between 8 and 14 days prior to the course start date, NOLS will retain 50% of course tuition.
    3. Less than 8 days prior to course start date and once the course has begun, there will be no refunds

    **We strongly urge you to purchase refundable plane tickets and trip insurance. Participants will be required to reimburse NOLS for the expenses incurred in evacuating them from the course. Although we rarely need to do so, we reserve the right to cancel a course or change a course duration, tuition or location. NOLS is not responsible for costs associated in these cases.
