At NOLS Professional Training we take the teaching and leadership curriculum that has made NOLS the best in the industry and create a custom course to fit your unique needs. We determine what you need and provide a format specially designed just for your group, whether you want to focus on leadership and teamwork or develop solid outdoor skills.

Course Dates and Group Size

Course dates and group size may affect the possibility of designing a course in a specific location or around a specific skill. For example, Alaska hiking courses only run in the summer months with an optimum group size of 9 to 12 people. If you know your course dates and/or desired group size, contact our program coordinators to discuss options.

We can bring our expert educators to you, or you can join us in one of our wilderness classrooms all over the world. While not limited to these locations, NOLS Professional Training operates most economically near our branches in the following locations:

Client Specific Programs

Wildland Firefighter Leadership Training
This six and a half day leadership training expedition is designed to provide potential or current fire crew supervisors the tools to build and lead highly functional crews. NOLS L-380 training is rigorous, student-focused, and customized to the needs of your organization and your environment.

Medicine in the Wild - Medical Student Elective

This unique course for medical students begins in Tucson, Arizona with a six-day Wilderness Upgrade for Medical Professionals. From Tucson you will travel into the Gila Wilderness for nearly three weeks of challenging travel and medical scenarios.

US Naval Academy Leadership Expeditions

These month long expeditions designed specifically for US Naval Academy students are offered in Wyoming, Alaska or the Yukon. By no means an expedition or a guided tour, these courses allow students to practice leadership and develop wilderness skills in the areas of backpacking, mountaineering, sea kayaking or canoeing.

STEP - Alaska Sea Kayaking Expedition

Prince William Sound is the classroom for this expedition. This area offers a spectacular and varied natural history; it
is a place for observation, exploration and discovery. The variety of the landscape is compelling.

Kellogg School of Management

This 7-day leadership expedition is designed to provide Kellogg School of Management students with leadership and outdoor skills in a remote wilderness setting. This expedition has it all—technical skills, incredible scenery, ample leadership opportunities, and a dose of Patagonian culture.
