What better way to put your leadership skills into practice than backpacking with your cohort on a NOLS course through the Wind River Range? This rugged, glacier-carved range is famous for its sheer granite headwalls, soaring spires, and 13,000-foot summits covered with rock and surrounded by glaciers. You’ll work hard traveling over rocky and steep terrain, crossing rivers, and potentially climbing a peak, all while being surrounded by glistening alpine lakes, perennial snow, and towering peaks.
The course will be based out of NOLS Rocky Mountain in Lander, WY, home of the NOLS International Headquarters. This small town also boasts great hiking trails and year-round climbing for those weekend adventures when taking a break from the books is your goal.
The University of Wyoming Leadership Expedition is a seven-day field-based intensive expedition designed to practice and improve your leadership competence. Students will engage in a learning process whereby leadership and communication theories are grounded in repetitive practical experience and intentional reflection on leadership efficacy. The expedition will hone learning habits in teamwork and communication skills that will serve as the framework to integrate theoretical models with both academic and professional experiences.
This leadership practicum with NOLS will provide an opportunity to learn about your personal leadership style and practice different decision-making strategies all while leading and assessing your peers. The debriefs at the end of each day will provide you with the feedback and transference to help set you up for success with your future in the business world.
