Join us for a true wilderness expedition in the heart of the Frank Church—River of No Return Wilderness. Travel the Main Salmon, known for its pristine beauty, white-water rapids, and its rich human history. Designed for UMC Pastors, this expedition is the opportunity of a lifetime.
For the entire 8 days of your course, your mode of travel is the canoe, perhaps the most aesthetic of wilderness travel skills. Highly maneuverable yet self-contained with the ability to carry heavy loads, canoes were the boat of choice for many of this continent’s early explorers.
This expedition includes our most complete leadership curriculum, using the same model with which we train space station astronauts and shuttle crews. Participants rotate serving as designated leaders each day, while others learn active followership to help make an optimal team. Time is prioritized for individual and group reflection about effective situational leadership.
NOLS courses are designed to develop resilient, confident leaders who work better in teams. A NOLS education makes those leaders more prepared to plan and make decisions, remain self-aware, and communicate effectively in any environment.
In today’s busy world, resilience is a critical leadership skill—and that is the very skill participants identified most commonly as coming from their NOLS education.
