Patagonia is a remote wilderness frontier of isolated mountain valleys, ragged icy peaks, brawling rivers, and cathedral fjords. The hallmarks of a NOLS Patagonia course are exploration and tough, unpredictable, weather. However, these conditions help build resilience and tolerance for adversity and uncertainty, forcing you to test your outdoor skills.
The NOLS Patagonia Expedition is a 12-day field-based training that teaches technical outdoor skills, risk management and decision-making and cultural history.
Once you have mastered basic wilderness skills, you’ll move into advanced curriculum such as hazard analysis and mitigation, off-trail travel techniques on third- and forth-class terrain, individual and team leadership. The route starts around 1,500 feet and ascends to 8,500 feet while traveling on and off trails, across dry (non-snow covered) and wet (snow covered) glaciers, over morrains (glacier-deposited rock piles), and up steep rocky terrain and vegetated rain forest.
This Patagonia expedition will be one of the most memorable and exciting adventures of your life!
